Austrian native pro snowboarder, Christian (Gigi) Ruf, spent 12 years riding for Burton and building their elite brand. In 2008, he left Burton and joined Volcom as a sponsor. As part of the Volcom team, Ruf is allowed more freedom to do what he enjoys most. He’s got his own snowboarding jacket and pant line by Volcom and a boot by Nike.
Ruf was recently named as part of the Burn Units, which is an elite snowboarding team sponsored by Burn Energy Drink. His fellow teammates include Arthur Longo, Ståle Sandbech, Matheiu Crepel, and Werni Stock.
Known for his fluid and smooth riding style, Ruf has starred in several films by various studios. A few to mention are:
- Absinthe Films’ Ready
- Pirate Productions’ OverSeas
- Brain Farm Digital Cinema’s The Art of Flight
- Pirate Productions’ Hooked

“Giraffe” is Gigi Ruf’s nickname and his favorite place to ride is the Alps. For over 17 years, Ruf has been riding all kinds of boards on a regular stance. His other sponsors include: Dragon Opticals, Union Bindings, and Nixon.
Ruf is one of those snowboarders who can do it all and handle any terrain. He loves to film it too. Whether it’s dropping in from the heli to the steeps of Alaska or flying through the trees and dropping cliffs in Japan, Ruf will be there.
After joining Volcom, Ruf’s life changed in more than just sponsorship.
When Ruf isn't busy following snowboading endeavors, he recently got married and had a baby. But taking on a family is just a new addition to his passions.
His creativity and exciting style to watch will proceed to be recognized as one of the best in the world.
