While parts of the United States are seeing extreme temperatures in the 100s, New Zealand is experience an entirely different type of extreme.
Parts of New Zealand are seeing its first snowfall in some 80 years as a "once in a lifetime" polar blast spreads across the Kiwi country.

As the Daily Mail is reporting, New Zealand plunged into darkness Monday as flights were ground, roads closed and mail deliveries cancelled.
Wellington, which rarely gets snow, is experience snow levels it hasn’t seen since the 1970s. Even further to the south, Auckland is experiencing its first snowfall for about 80 years. Meteorologists are describing the historic change in weather as a "once in many decades event".
Still, it doesn’t appear that many citizens seem to care all that much.People took to the streets to play and take photos of the winter wonderland as for many it was the first time they had seen snow in the area.
"Looking at oncoming drivers and seeing their smiles as we were fascinated by this unusual occurrence - it was truly delightful to see, yet all too short," Auckland resident Kevin Prohl is quoted as saying by the New Zealand Herald.
The cold snap is expected to last several days, so now would be as good a time as any to break out your skiis and snowboards!
